Navratri is special & Samak Ke Chawal Ki Kheer makes it extra special. Samak or Samavat or Barnyard Millet is not actually rice but resembles a very tiny grain of rice. Samak Rice Kheer is tasty and you can add lots of fruits of your choice to it.
This recipe will give a smooth, creamy rice pudding that will nourish you during fasting.

Vrat Ki Kheer
Serves 4
Samak ke Chawal – ¼ cup
Milk – 750ml
Sugar – ½ cup
Nuts Chopped – handful
Sugar – ½ cup
Cardamom powder – ½ tsp
Ghee – 1 tbsp
For puree
Milk – 250ml
Banana (optional) – 1no
Method
Soak samak ke chawal in water for 20mins.
Peel the banana and mix it with 250ml milk and grind it to a smooth puree.
Heat the remaining milk in a pan and bring it to a boil. Drain the water out of the samak chawal and add it to the boiling milk. Add dry fruits of your choice and cook on medium heat till the chawal is cooked and milk is thick.
Once the rice is cooked add cardamom powder and sugar. Add the banana milk puree at this stage. Again bring it to a boil add add desi ghee to it. Cook till milk thickens.
Remove from heat and serve it hot or cold.
